Construction preparation for Memorial Hospital’s replacement facility is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 21. In the interest of safety, public walking trails on the property will be closed from March 21 until construction is complete in late 2017.
Site preparation begins Monday on the new roadway that will provide access to the property. The road will be named “Old Memorial Way,” and will provide access to the site from both Loucks Road and Roosevelt Avenue.
“Memorial Hospital’s mission has always been to improve the health and well-being of the community we serve,” said Sally Dixon, CEO of Memorial Hospital. “That vision transcends beyond the care we provide within our hospital. Keeping public walking trails in the plans for our new hospital has always been a priority for us.”
When complete, the trails will be rerouted around the new hospital.
The construction of a replacement facility is a central component of the hospital’s strategic plan to serve the York area. The site on the former Hawk Lake Golf Course, located at 1605 Loucks Road, was selected after an extensive study of the market and properties that would best support a health campus with room for growth.
The replacement facility will be a four-level, 102-bed hospital designed to accommodate the latest advancements in healthcare. The modern hospital will feature all private patient rooms, be easier for patients to navigate and add a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), a service not offered at the current facility.
Plans for a groundbreaking ceremony will be announced soon.
