The Memorial Health Systems board undertook a thorough process to research and identify the best possible future for our hospital. They reviewed many options and potential partners in determining that affiliation with Community Health Systems (CHS) provides the greatest benefit for our hospital, our associates, our medical staff and the community we serve.

Community Health Systems, Inc. is one of the nation’s leading operators of general acute-care hospitals. The organization’s affiliates own, operate or lease more than 130 community hospitals across 29 states. CHS offers substantial resources for physician recruitment, strong quality and customer service initiatives, vast group purchasing discounts and many best practices developed in operating hospitals across the country.

CHS also has a strong track record of deploying capital to support its affiliated hospitals. Hundreds of millions of dollars has been invested into affiliated hospitals across Pennsylvania to expand facilities and add medical technology. CHS also has considerable experience with new hospital construction and has built a number of replacement hospitals over the past five years, including those under construction now in Valparaiso, Indiana; Barstow, California; and Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

CHS already has a presence in Pennsylvania, so they are quite familiar with this region and excited to expand their operations here. Memorial Hospital will become the seventeenth CHS-affiliated hospital in the Commonwealth.
